Mainland Medical Center Auxiliary Donates $30,000 toward COM Scholarships

Mainland Medical Center Auxiliary (MMCA) has made numerous generous donations to College of the Mainland (COM) for more than 25 years. MMCA reached a new milestone when they presented a check for $30,000 to COM during the College’s April Board of Trustees meeting. This donation brought their monetary donation total to more than $328,000 toward phlebotomy, nursing and other allied health scholarships.

“We felt a great need there to help these students out,” stated Pat Christie, former board member of the MMCA. “We always wanted to donate within our community.”

The Mainland Medical Auxiliary has served the community since 1958. Operating solely by volunteers, the MMCA raises funds through the Mainland Medical Center Gift Shop, bake sales and other fundraisers.

“I would encourage anyone who can, to give up their time and talent for others,” stated Christie. “It’s undeniable and very rewarding.”

The COM Foundation has awarded more than $700,000 in scholarships to COM students this academic year. For more information, visit www.com.edu/scholarships.
